Week 7

THIS WAS DEFINITELY ONE GAME THAT EVERYONE WOULD LIKE TO QUICKLY FORGET. IT
WAS ALMOST TWO SEPARATE GAMES IN ONE. THE BRONCOS OWNED THE FIRST HALF BUT
ONLY HELD A 7-0 HALFTIME LEAD. ( NOT PUNCHING THAT ONE IN FROM THE 5 YARD
LINE WITH FIRST AND GOAL WAS A KILLER...) THE SECOND HALF WAS A DIFFERENT
ANIMAL. SOMEONE ON THAT VERONA SIDELINE FINALLY REALIZED WHAT A STUD THEY
HAD IN NUMBER "35", AND JUST FED HIM THE BALL ALL AFTERNOON. NOTHING FANCY,
JUST PITCH LEFT-PITCH RIGHT AND POOR TACKLING LED TO TWO TOUCHDOWNS AND A
14-7 DEFEAT.

THE BOYS FROM MONTVILLE STILL HAVE A CHANCE TO GET INTO POST-SEASON PLAY.
BUT IT WILL TAKE A WINNING EFFORT THIS WEEK AGAINST THE ALWAYS TOUGH
FAIRFIELD FALCONS. THE PLAN IS SIMPLE ... WIN AND ITS THE PLAYOFFS, LOSE AND
ITS OFF TO BASKETBALL, WRESTLING OR WHATEVER YOU DO.

Week 6

RIGHT FROM THE START YOU KNEW THAT THIS GAME WAS GOING TO BE A CLOSE, HARD FOUGHT, RIGHT DOWN TO THE WIRE FOOTBALL GAME, THE BRONCOS CAME INTO THIS CONTEST WITH A 3-2 RECORD, WHILE THE CALDWELL CHIEFS WERE 3-1-1. THIS GAME WOULD PROBABLY GO A LONG WAY IN DETERMINING WHO WILL CONTINUE TO BE ONE OF THE FOUR PLAYOFF TEAMS AND WHO WOULD NOT.

WELL THE GAME DID NOT DISAPPOINT. THE BRONCOS WON A HARD FOUGHT CONTEST 7-6 IN CALDWELL. IN THE DARKNESS, ( SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SET THOSE CLOCKS BACK...) THIS PAST SUNDAY THE BRONCOS HELD OFF A LATE CHIEF DRIVE TO GET OUT WITH THE WIN. AS THEY SAY..."IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE PRETTY, JUST EFFECTIVE." AND THAT IT WAS!

VERY EARLY IN THE GAME THE COMBINATION OF JAZTRABSKI AND TODISCO HOOKED UP FOR A LONG PASS FOR A TOUCHDOWN. THE EXTRA POINT THIS TIME HAD A LITTLE RAZZLE DAZZLE WITH MIKE TODISCO TAKING THE SNAP AND PASSING TO ERIC TOPOROFF FOR THE EXTRA POINT. ( THAT WOULD LOOM LARGE LATER IN THE GAME.

THE BRONCOS HELD A 7-0 LEAD ON A SOFT AND MUDDY FIELD. EVERYONE THOUGHT DEFENSE WOULD RULE THIS GAME AND BOTH TEAMS DID NOT DISAPPOINT. THE CHIEFS DID PUT TOGETHER A LONG DRIVE WITH THEIR QUARTERBACK PASSING AND RUNNING FOR MOST OF THE YARDAGE. HE FINALLY PUSHED ONE OVER TO MAKE THE GAME 7-6. NOW IS WHEN IT GOT INTERESTING. WHAT SHOULD THE COACH DO.... RUN FOR THE EXTRA POINT TO TIE THE GAME SINCE THAT IS ONLY GOOD FOR ONE POINT. OR KICK THE EXTRA POINT AND GO FOR TWO WHICH WOULD HAVE GIVEN THE CHIEFS THE LEAD. THEY CHOSE TO KICK AND AFTER A HIGH SNAP THE BRONCO RUSH FLATTENED THE HOLDER TO HOLD THE BRONCO LEAD 7-6.

THE BRONCOS DID RUN OFF SOME NICE TIME OFF THE CLOCK AND PINNED THE CHIEFS IN THEIR END FOLLOWING A PUNT. THE CHIEFS DID PUT A THREAT TOGETHER AND THAT CLOCK DID SEEM TO BE TICKING OFF VERY SLOWLY, BUT THE BRONCOS DID PREVAIL.

THAT NOW PUTS THIS TEAM AT 4 AND 2 IN THE CONFERENCE. THIS WEEK A WIN AGAINST THE VERONA EAGLES WILL BE ANOTHER HUGE STEP IF THEY WANT TO GET INTO POSTSEASON PLAY. THE BRONCOS DID VERY WELL IN THEIR FIRST GAME, BUT CANNOT TAKE THIS EAGLE TEAM LIGHTLY AS THEY DID HAVE GOOD SIZE AND SHOULD COME TO MONTVILLE LOOKING FOR AN UPSET TO MAKE THERE SEASON.

THIS SUNDAY WILL ALSO BE HOMECOMING AS ALL OF OUR 8TH GRADE PLAYERS AND CHEERLEADERS WILL BE PLAYING THEIR LAST HOME GAME IN A BRONCO UNIFORM. COME OUT AND CHEER THEM ON .....

Week 5

....JUST THE BRONCOS LUCK, EAST HANOVER GOT HEALTHY WITH TWO OF THEIR BEST PLAYERS RETURNING THIS PAST SUNDAY. THIS WAS A VERY PHYSICAL FOOTBALL GAME WITH BOTH TEAMS LAYING SOME BIG HITS ON THE OPPONENT. THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE WAS THAT THE BRONCOS HAD THE TURNOVERS AND THE HORNETS DIDN'T! AT LEAST FOUR TO BE EXACT, AND THAT WAS THE BIGGEST FACTOR IN THIS 30-12 DEFEAT.

AS IS THE CASE EACH WEEK NOW , THE OPPONENTS HAVE MADE IT A PRIORITY TO STOP " THE JASTREBSKI TO TODISCO COMBINATION." FOR THE MOST PART IT WORKED. BUT WHEN THE HORNETS SCORED AND KICKED OFF THE BALL WENT RIGHT TO MICHAEL TODISCO IN THE CENTER OF THE FIELD AND HE ZIG ZAGGED THRU THE HORNETS AND WENT ABOUT 60 YARDS FOR THE BRONCOS FIRST SCORE. THAT DEFINITELY MADE IT INTERESTING AT HALFTIME WITH THE SCORE EAST HANOVER 14- BRONCOS 6.

THE BRONCOS HAD VERY LITTLE SUCCESS ON OFFENSE ALL DAY, OTHER THAN SOME NICE BETWEEN THE TACKLE RUNS BY BOTH NICHOLAS GAETA AND ERIC TOPOROFF OUT OF THE FULLBACK POSITION. IT WAS SLOW GOING AND TOUGH DUTY TRYING TO GET OUTSIDE.

THE DEFENSE HAD ITS MOMENTS THIS PAST SUNDAY. JOEY PASSAFIUME DEFLECTED TWO PASSES AWAY. IN EACH CASE ONE MORE STEP AND IT IS GOING THE OTHER WAY FOR SIX POINTS. JOEY PLAYED HARD AND SUFFERED A CONCUSSION IN THE GAME. WE ALL HOPE HE IS OK. BUT THE BRONCOS DID GIVE UP SOME BIG PLAYS THAT COST THEM DEARLY.

IN THE FOURTH QUARTER WHEN THE GAME WAS WELL IN HAND BOTH SIDES MADE THE CHANGES TO THE JV PLAYERS. THE BRONCOS DID PUT A NICE FINAL DRIVE TOGETHER WITH JAMES DELGROSSO RUNNING IT IN AROUND RIGHT END FOR A TOUCHDOWN.

NEXT WEEK IS A MUST WIN AS THE BRONCOS, WHO STARTED OUT 3-0 ARE NOW 3-2. CALDWELL IS THIS WEEKS OPPONENT AND ANY PLAYOFF RUN NEEDS TO START HERE.

GOOD LUCK BOYS.....

Week 4

LIVINGSTON 30    MONTVILLE 6

THIS ONE WAS VERY CLOSE AT HALFTIME WITH THE LANCERS LEADING 14-6. THEY WERE CLEARLY THE MORE PHYSICAL TEAM UP FRONT AND GAVE OUR BRONOCS ALL THEY COULD HANDLE. BUT OUR BOYS DID SOME NICE THINGS EARLY THEMSELVES OFFENSIVELY AND PUT TOGETHER TWO VERY STRONG DRIVES. ONE ENDED IN A TOUCHDOWN WITH ERIC TOPOROFF RUNNING OFF TACKLE AND FIGHTING FOR THE EXTRA YARDAGE TO GET IN THE END ZONE TO TIE THE SCORE AT 6-6. LIVINGSTON SHREDDED THE DEFENSE OF THE BRONCOS AGAIN TO GO UP 14-6. BUT THE BRONCOS ANSWERED THE BELL AGAIN WITH A NICE DRIVE OF THEIR OWN. BUT SOME UNTIMELY PENALTIES PUSHED THEM BACK INTO 3RD AND 4TH DOWN AND LONG, WHICH SPELLS DISASTER FOR ANY OFFENSE. THE LANCERS PUT UP TWO MORE TOUCHDOWNS IN THE SECOND HALF AND HELD THE BRONCO OFFENSE AT BAY. I AM SURE THE TEAM IS DISAPPOINTED IN THEIR RESULTS, BUT THERE IS ALOT OF FOOTBALL LEFT THIS SEASON, AND MAKING THE PLAYOFFS HAS TO BE THE ULTIMATE GOAL. THIS SATURDAY NIGHT IN FAIRFIELD THE BRONCOS STRAP THE HELMETS ON AGAIN AGAINST ANOTHER VERY GOOD AND PHYSICAL TEAM IN THE FALCONS.  THE TEAM IS 3 AND 1 AFTER FOUR GAMES.... PLAYERS AND COACHES STAY FOCUSED ON THE POSITIVES AND GOOD THINGS WILL HAPPEN!

Week 3

MONTVILLE 22        CEDAR GROVE 0

ANOTHER WEEK OF A TEAM VARSITY FOOTBALL IN MONTVILLE AND ANOTHER WEEK OF THE JASTREBSKI TO TODISCO COMBINATION! TWO MORE TOUCHDOWNS THIS PAST SUNDAY - THIS PITCH AND CATCH COMBINATION IS LETHAL. YOU COULD EVEN HERE THE COACHES ON THE CEDAR GROVE SIDELINE YELLING..."WATCH THE WAGGLE PASS.....", AND THEY STILL COULDN'T STOP US FROM SCORING.  THE OFFENSE WAS VERY EFFICIENT ALL DAY, ALL THE BACKS HAD SOLID AFTERNOONS.
ERIC TOPOROFF, BILLY FORSYTH, NICHOLAS GAETA AND JOEY PASSAFIUME EACH HAD KEY RUNS. JASON SCHWARTZ TURNED THE CORNER IN THE FOURTH QUARTER FOR A LONG RUN THAT PUT MONVILLE OUT IN FRONT 22-0.  A SPECIAL "HATS OFF" TO THE ENTIRE OFFENSIVE LINE. THEY OPENED HOLES ALL DAY AND DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB. WAY TO GO PHIL BENEVENGA, DAVID GE, MIKEL RIVERA, MARC HERSHKOVITZ AND DEAN EIGENMANN.
WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT THE DEFENSE...ANOTHER SHUTOUT!
SPECIAL TEAMS WERE ALSO OUTSTANDING AS MICHAEL TODISCO KICKED TWO OF THREE EXTRA POINTS. THESE EXTRA POINTS ARE TWO POINTS EACH SO THEY ARE KEYS TO WINNING FOOTBALL GAMES. THE SNAP AND THE HOLD ARE ESSENTIALFOR ANY SUCCESSFUL KICK  AND JASON SCHWARTZ DID A FINE JOB ON THE HOLDS AND NICHOLAS GAETA'S SNAPS WERE ON THE MONEY ALL DAY!
NEXT UP- LIVINGSTON! THIS IS ALWAYS A TOUGH GAME AND THIS YEAR SHOULD BE NO DIFFERENT. THE BRONCOS HOPE TO EXTEND THEIR WINNING STREAK TO FOUR STRAIGHT GAMES. COME OUT ON SUNDAY TO WATCH... THIS SHOULD BE A GOOD ONE!

Week 2

MONTVILLE 18        WEST ESSEX 6

THE RAMS MAY HAVE WARNER TO HAKIM IN THE NFL, BUT THE BRONCOS ARE MAKING THEIR MARK WITH THE COMBINATION OF JASTREBSKI TO TODISCO. THE PAIR CONNECTED TWO MORE TIMES THIS PAST SUNDAY FOR SCORES WITH TOMMY J THROWING PINPOINT PASSES AND MICHAEL MAKING GREAT RUNS. THIS COMBINATION IS PROVING TO BE A WEAPON THAT WILL STRIKE FEAR IN OPPONENTS WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT. SANDWICHED IN BETWEEN WAS A BEAUTIFUL OFF TACKLE RUN BY JOEY PASSAFIUME FOR A SCORE, WHICH PUT THE BRONCOS AHEAD FOR GOOD LATE IN THE THIRD QUARTER. JOEY HAD A REAL NICE DAY FOR HIMSELF ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL MAKING A KEY STOP LATE IN THE GAME ON FOURTH DOWN TO HOLD OFF A LATE WEST ESSEX DRIVE. ONE NICE FEATURE THAT THIS BRONCO TEAM HAS IS A DEPTH OF WEAPONS AT THE SKILL POSITIONS TO COME AT OPPONENTS. ALL DAY NICHOLAS GAETA WAS ABLE TO GET KEY FIRST DOWNS FROM HIS FULLBACK POSITION TO KEEP THE CHAINS MOVING WITH 5, 10 & 15 YARD RUNS. JASON SCHWARTZ AND BILLY FORSYTH ALSO MADE SOME KEY RUNS AND CATCHES WHICH KEPT THE WEST ESSEX DEFENSE ON ITS HEELS ALL DAY AND RAN VALUABLE TIME OFF THE CLOCK.

THE BRONCOS STARTED THE DAY OFF WITH NOTHING GOING RIGHT FOR THEM, BUT THEY WEATHERED THE STORM AND WENT INTO HALFTIME TIED 6 TO 6. ( THAT WAS AFTER 3 CONSECUTIVE TURNOVERS ON THEIR FIRST THREE SERIES. IN THESE GAMES THAT USUALLY SPELLS DEFEAT BECAUSE YOU DO NOT GET THAT MANY POSSESSIONS IN THE FIRST PLACE!)

BUT THE BRONCO DEFENSE HAS BEEN SOLID AND STINGY UPFRONT, AT THE LINEBACKER POSITION AND IN COVERAGE AT CORNERBACK AND SAFETY. I AM SURE COACH DELUCA IS COUNTING ON HIS DEFENSE TO CARRY HIM WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT BY KEEPING THE OPPONENTS OUT OF THE END ZONE  AS HIS OFFENSE STARTS TO COME TOGETHER.

....ON A MORE IMPORTANT NOTE ,  EVERYONE WHO WAS AT THE GAME WISHES A SPEEDY RECOVERY TO DONNIE TRIFARI WHO SUFFERED A BROKEN ARM ON SUNDAY!

....2 WINS AND 0 LOSSES AFTER TWO WEEKS, BRING ON CEDAR GROVE!

Week 1

Michael Todisco scores 4 touchdowns to lead Montville to a 27-6 victory over Verona.  Tommy J hooked up with Mike on 3 waggle passes for Touchdowns and Michael also intercepted a pass in the forth quarter and ran it back for his forth TD on the game.  Aside from one big 60 yard TD run the Montville defense held Verona in check all day.
