Varsity:

Week 8 1/2:
The Broncos took to the road for a game against Verona. It was a strange game because a win didn't guarantee a playoff birth because Livingston and Cedar Grove were playing at the same time. And to really confuse things Livingston had to lose for us to get in whether we won or not. (... very confusing isn't it!)

But it was another game for the Broncos who were starting to come together as a team. A little late, but good nonetheless.

The Broncos really looked ready to go right from the start. The Verona Eagles looked like they wanted to be somewhere else. They also were hurt by the fact that their stud player was out for the game. The Broncos played their best game of the year and destroyed the Eagles 25 to 6. Taylor Meytrott was as dominent as I have ever seen him and took the team on his back. Taylor had three touchdowns and several long runs to put the game out of reach. Josh Gajdos also put one in the endzone with a reception off a 30yard pass from Kevin Fassanacht. By the end of the third quarter the Broncos were starting to make substitutions to get some of the younger boys playing time.

With the game well in hand the only thing left to worry about was what was going on in Livingston; that would determine if this was the boys last game or not. Well over coffee this morning the call came that Livingston had beaten Cedar Grove which leaves the Broncos on the outside looking in.

I am sure many, including the coaches have that empty feeling because they knew our boys matched up with any of the teams. But they did end the varsity season on a high note and won their last two games in a dominent fashion. The final record is 4-4-1. ( ... love to have that tie with Verona back....)

Great job boys... Good luck in the high school!

Week 8:
This week the A team matched up against East Hanover, their opponent from week one. That week the Broncos lost a hard fought battle 13 to 0. But the boys gave the Jr. Hornets all they could handle for three quarters.

This game was a "last stand" for the Broncos, lose and go home for the winter... win and hope some combination of Cedar Grove or Verona losses would be needed. to earn a playoff spot. ( More on that later....)

This game was what the coaches had been looking for all year, minus the turnovers. Alot of spirit, heart and determination. The Broncos were ready right from the start. A razzle dazzle opening play didn't work, but set the tone that the Broncos were going to go for it today. On that first series Taylor Meytrott broke through the line and raced 50 yards for the first score. The extra point failed but the Broncos had a 6 to 0 lead. Tough defense has been the mainstay all year and this day was no exception. Taylor was incredible on the defensive side as well covering the entire field from his middle linebacker position.  The announcer, Matt Schwartz called Taylors name all day. But the defense has eleven players and many turned in stellar efforts. Michael Todisco had a nice game also with some open field tackles and fumble recoveries. Andrew Barnish had some nice hits from his tackle position giving the Jr. Hornets fits all day.

But the Broncos could not capitalize on East Hanovers off day completely. The Broncos had had five turnovers at times when they could have put the game away, the Jr Hornets had as many fumbles giving the "gifts" right back to the Broncos. Finally, the Broncos cashed in on one with Michael Schiavo punching one in from the two yard line. The extra point was good and the Broncos went up 13 to 0.

Things got a little scary at the end as the Jr. Hornets put one in to close to 13 to 6. And the Broncos had a turnover to give Coach DeLuca a headache near the end of the game, but the defense answered the call and held. And at the end QB Kevin Fassanacht took a knee with the final snap to clinch a victory.

.... and oh by the way, remember early on about needing some help to get a playoff spot. Well the "Bronco Gods" were smiling today and gave the Broncos an early Xmas gift. This Tuesday they will play Verona to determine who will have the final playoff spot.

Good job boys... it would have been easy to pack it in, but you showed alot of pride and came out on top.

Good job coaches.... the team was relaxed and looked like they had fun playing this past Sunday. Use that and let it go on Tuesday.

Week 7
Well they say you play like you practice. Coach Deluca was concerned all week about the way his team was approaching the Livingston game. They were a team that had only won one game and we just played our best game and gave undefeated Fairfield all they could handle.  His concerns were true and the team had a very sluggish game against Livingston. The Broncos lost 14 to 6. Another game and any hopes to make the playoffs slipped away.  The Lancers used a potent passing attack and a few break away runs to go up by two touchdowns at halftime. It was also a tough game physically as several Bronco players including starters Justin Smolen, Taylor Meytrott and Mike Schiavo were hurt.  Taylor and Michael returned and helped Montville put a touchdown on the board.  Livingston was on their heels the whole second half, with the Broncos staging a valient drive that stalled on the Livingston goaline with no time on the clock.  The Broncos had many chances to punch it in but came up short. Frustrating yes.... But the kids never gave up and mounted a drive that gave them a chance to tie the game.  The moral of this story is the universal one of taking what you think is an inferior opponent likely.  Lesson learned!

Week 6:
The Montville Broncos this week matched up with the undefeated powerhouse Fairfield Falcons. The big question all week was whether the "big stud" tailback from Fairfield was everything that others were saying about him. The Broncos new that their defense was tough enough to match and meet the challenge.

The Broncos came out gunning in the first quarter and put a quick touchdown on the board with Michael Schiavo going in from the one. The Broncos missed the point after but led 6-0. The Falcons had a tough time early with the Broncos defense, but did put a touchdown and point after in for a 8-6 lead. But the Broncos came right back and marched down the field to put another touchdown in with a pass from Kevin Fassanacht to Matt Testa. The touchdown was setup by several nice catches by Josh Gajdos. Josh had a breakout game on both sides of the ball. One long pass from Fassanacht in particular clearly showed the height advantage and catching advantage that Josh has by leaping over a would be defender that set up the Testa touchdown. That made the score 12-8 going in to halftime with the Broncos feeling very good about things.

But remember early on when I mentioned that "big stud" tailback.... well to answer that original question, he was everything and then some and put two more touchdown runs on the board. The Falcons kicker also had a good day making all three extra points giving the Falcons a 24-12 victory.

Nothing to feel bad about with this game. The Broncos played tough defense all day giving the Falcons their toughest challenge this year. Many players like Taylor Meytrott, Michael Schiavo and Matt Testa played hurt and gave it their all. But if ever the phrase "a one man team" rings true this was it!

Bring on Livingston and hope Cedar Grove losses!..... I bet the Broncos would like to have that Cedar Grove game back!

Week 5:
The Montville Broncos fought the Verona Eagles to a 0-0 tie this past Sunday. The bad news is that it is not a win, but the good news is the tie gives the Broncos 1 point in their conference battle to make a playoff spot. As they like to say, its better than a loss!

The game was a hard fought defensive struggle where no team really threatened to punch one in or had a big play. Things started and stopped up front with Max Rapkin and Andrew Barnish having strong games on the defensive side of the ball. Taylor Meytrott and Michael Schiavo anchored the middle of the defense with many hits to stop Verona drives. The secondary also did a nice job staying close to would be Verona receivers. Josh Gajdos stepped up from his safety position to defend would be receivers all day.

Not much else to cover... Bring on Fairfield next Saturday night!

Week 4 vs Cedar Grove:  The Montville Broncos A team seemed to match up well against this weeks opponent from Cedar Grove. This was one of the few times that we seemed to have the size advantage with our opponent. But that is why, as they say " they play the games...".

Early on the game was hard fought and played between the 20's. Both teams seemed to be able to move the ball but would either stall or shoot themselves in the foot and not capitalizing by putting one in the end zone. As a matter of fact the score at halftime was 0-0. The defense led by Josh Gajdos, Kevin Fassanacht, Justin Vol, Brandon Glick, Michael Todisco, Taylor Meytrott, Michael Schiavo, Matt Testa, Ryan Matesky, Max Rapkin and Andrew Barnish stood there ground all day and turned back many Cedar Grove opportunities early on. But things changed dramatically in the second half once the offense committed a few turnovers. A fumble, a fumble returned for a touchdown and an interception set the tone for a miserable second half for the Broncos. The final score was 24-0!

Oouch! Not much else to say other than bring on Verona....

Week 3 vs West Essex:  The Montville Brocos A team won another hard fought West Essex League battle. The team beat West Essex 20-0. The Broncos were lead by Taylor Meytrott who trampled through the WE defensive line, linebackers and secondary for three touchdowns. The offensive line also did a standout job opening holes all day for Taylor; as well as Mike Schiavo, Matt Testa and Kevin Fassanacht.

But for anyone who saw the game they know that the Bronco defense continued to be very stingy. They scored their second consecutive shutout and are well on their way to continuing the reputation of having a strong defense amongst the league.

Overall the team is starting to come together and is clicking on all cylinders. Not only is the defense performing well, but the offense is putting up better and better numbers every week. ( Zero touchdowns Week 1, One touchdown Week 2 and Three touchdowns Week 3.....Can't wait for next week.) Another big improvement is special teams; the punt teams are strong with Nick Fischera doing a great job of punting and putting the opponents in a hole. But how about those extra points... That is two-points not one and will continue to make a big difference for the Broncos for the rest of the season and beyond. The kickoff and kickoff return teams have also done the job. This past week Taylor took one back all the way... to the five-yard line. He has caught alot of abuse about getting caught from behind by a guy with a high number on his uniform and a stripe on his helmet. We will all cut Taylor slack though because of the overall outstanding job that he has done all year.

Junior Varsity:

The A team JV has their final game on saturday at 11am in East Hanover.

This Tuesdays game was postponed because trhe Varsity has a pre-playoff game. Next match is this Friday at home.

Week 7
The Broncos JV A team continued their winning ways this week with a 14 to 9 hard fought win over Glen Ridge. Two TD passes from Tom Jastrebski to Michael Todisco and one extra point was all the Broncos would need today.

The defense continued their season long dominance of their opponents and shut Glen Ridge down all day.

Hard hitting and very good pass defense rose to the occasion. The secondary of Billy Forsyth and, Jason Schwartz  played tight pass defense. Tom Jastrebski and Nick Gaeta had their names called all day making many tackles. While Nick Caiazza had a great day up front hitting ball carriers in the backfield all day.

The boys take their 5 and 1 record in to the final weeks of the season. They face a tough opponent in Roxbury next week.

Week 6:
The Montville Broncos A-JV team came out this week with a tremendous desire to rebound from the Belleville loss the previous week. Bounce back they did. The Broncos dominated the team from Nutley all day and won easily 20-6. The defense was absolutely outstanding and not only scored one touchdown, but set up another. The first score was setup after a nice interception by Michael Todisco who ran it down to the Nutley  four yard line. Two plays later Aaron Glick, who had a great day on defense as well, ran in to give the Broncos a 6-0 lead. The point after was good with Todisco putting it right through the uprights. The second touchdown was a beauty. Billy Forsyth timed a pass in the flat perfectly and took the pick about 40+ yards in for the score. The third touchdown came after a long drive with several long runs by Nicholas Gaeta to put the Broncos on the Nutley doorstep to punch another one in. Punch it in they did with Tom Jastrebski putting a perfect pass in the hands of Tyler Braden for the score.

This week the Broncos match up with Glen Ridge again. The Broncos took a hard fought 8-0 game, so the Glen Ridge team should be coming to Montville with some fire. The Broncos record improved to 4-2!

Week 5:
This week the JV played another OIL league game against a bigger team from Nutley. Unlike last weeks loss to Belleville, this week our line was able to open holes all day. The backfield led by Billy Forsyth, Jason Schwartz, Nicholas Gaeta and Tom Jastrebski hit the line hard and ran through good holes all day. The Broncos took this game 20-6 with Billy scoring two touchdowns on long runs and Jason turning the right corner for a touchdown run of his own. Great job up front by Trevor Wolf, Mikel Rivera, Michael Hitchkoff, Brian Conklin, Nick Caiazza, Jason Malinowski, Johnny D'Esposito, Tyler Braden and Zach Dubnoff.

The defense was also strong all day as well. Job well done!

Good luck Friday night at home against Bloomfield in another OIL league game!

Week 4:
The JV team wet in to this O.I.L. league game with a 2-1 record. This weeks opponent was Belleville. They bused them in, probably because they could not fit in their cars. These boys were big. Not just one or two... but several big and fast boys. It was close for a while, but some costly plays on punt coverage led to the first two scores. The defense worked very hard all night to bend but not break. Aaron Glyck, Billy Forsyth, Jason Schwartz, Justin Smolen, Tom Jastrebski, Nicholas Gaeta, Michael Todisco, Zach Dubnoff, Brian Conklin, Michael Hitchkoff, Nick Caiazza, and Tyler Braden fought hard against the big boys from Belleville all night. The highlight on the offensive side was a 40+ yard run by Bill Forsyth around the left side. The Broncos JV team came up short 20-6.

Week 3: The Montville Broncos A team JV is also off to a 2-1 start. This past week they matched up against a much larger Glen Ridge team. Several members of their team surpassed our 150lb weight limit and pushed the 175lb plateau. The Broncos won a hard fought defensive battle 8-0. Thats right 8... The JV's have also mastered the art of kicking the extra point for two points instead of one. But for those that attended the game that wasn't as easy as it sounds as the ref's first decided it was no good, or one said it was good and the other said no good, we all were very confused as well. But after much discussion they agreed that it was good and they put the two-point conversion on the board! The touchdown came after a long pass from Tom Jastrebski to Michael Todisco to the Glen Ridge two-yard line. One the next play the Broncos fullback Nicholas Gaeta to the ball in off tackle for the touchdown. The undersized Broncos stood their ground all day on the defensive side as well. Several drives ended with key sacks, and tough fourth and short stops.

Nicky Fires up the Crowd

The Montville Bronco B's were able to complete a perfect 10-0 season and win a Super Bowl on their home field with a 19-6 bashing over West Essex.  It was coach Chierici's third consecutive Super Bowl Trophy.  The first on his home field.  On a cold and windy day the "Bronco Express" came out on fire from the start. On their first possession with a running attack of Jimmy DelGrosso, Matt Maiello, and Kenneth Ventura , the Broncos were able to march right down the field and score on a James DelGrosso burst around left end.  Donnie Trifari was able to connect with Anthony Chierici on a spectacular reception to make the score 7-0.  The Broncos scored again in the second quarter on a 30 yard scramble by Donnie Trifari.  The PAT was no good and the Broncos were on their way 13-0 at halftime. Had it not been for a fumble near the end zone Montville would have had another score. With the wind shutting down the passing game , the Broncos  just pounded the ball down West Essex throat with a balanced rushing attack.  Matt Maiello had his best game of the season racking up big yardage all day.  Danny McClure also contributed a few nice runs as well.  Jimmy Delgrosso was the work horse in this game with numerous carries and some big gains to go along with his TD. This was also Donnie Trifari's best day rushing, scrambling for 2 long runs on the afternoon and a TD.  In the fourth quarter Kenneth Ventura blasted over from short yardage extending the lead to 19-0.  Defensively the Broncos just pounded West Essex backs all day shutting them out until the last few minutes of the game.  Kenneth Ventura and Eric Toporoff led the way with Phil Benevenga, John Gauweiler, David Ge, and Anthony Chierici  all contributing  big games as well.  Anthony Chierici had another interception and Greg Deluca made a touchdown saving tackle early.  Here are the 2001 Super Bowl Champs: Danny McClure, Marc Redding, Donnie Trifari, James DelGrosso, Grayson Wolf, Anthony Chierici, Greg Deluca, Matt Maiello, Kenneth Ventura, Eric Toporoff, David Ge, Robert Geers, Anthony Callandrello, Andy Crozier, John Cecire, Josh Smith,  John Gauweiler, Phil Benevenga, Nick Libretti, and Robert Grimal. Head Coach Joe Chierici and assistants Sammy Carsillo, Tommy Redding, Donnie Trifari, and Kenny Ventura. Thank-You for a great season and you all should be proud of what you achieved.   10 WINS AND 0 LOSES !!!!

Superbowl Week Pep Talk
As the Mystery Sports Writer this year I've received a lot of positive Emails from players, coaches, and parents telling me how much they've liked the write ups and wanting to know who I am. Today I received a very interesting Email request from "JR M BRONCO FAN 1". It reads as follows:

Kenny Protects his Quarterback

Dear Strk002,  I think you have done a great job with the summaries this year. I'm sure the kids liked reading about themselves. You should take credit for them and tell us who you are. The team is 9-0 and have had a great season. You have wriiten so many good things about the players but forgot about the great job these coaches have done.  They are the only Montville team still alive. Could you possibly include them in your last summary.   Thank-you

WELL HERE IT GOES MR. WEB MASTER. PUT IT UP.

As our Broncos prepare for this weeks upcoming Super Bowl I would like to thank the coaching staff for all their hard work, dedication, and a very exciting season. Win or lose it will be a season to remember. Rumor has it Coach Chierici will be stepping down as Director after the game on Sunday. Over the years Joe has done a fantastic job building a successful program. After all "all the guy does is win Super Bowls" and here we are again this year. His hard work and dedication will be missed but not forgotten by the boys and parents that have been involved over the years. This year he has surrounded himself with a strong staff. Remember the old sweep left, sweep right, up the middle boring offense? Not this year, Donnie Trifari (THE DELAWARE GURU) was able to teach a high school offense with so many formations to 10 and 11 year old boys and run it successfully. Furthermore, it was a system that allowed all of his backs and recievers to be involved and get the ball. Even his backups had their share of carrying the football.  Back again this year was Sam Carsillo (THE ENFORCER) cracking his whip getting this team into shape and keeping them in line.  He also did a fine job of rotating his linemen, giving them all a chance to play. What can you say about the job Ken Ventura(THE RULER) did preparing this defense week in and week out. They were just a dominant force. Aside from all the hard work at practice, scouting and film watching obviously were part of his spare time activities. He was also the inspirational leader with his pre game prayer. Lastly there was Tom Redding (THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK) a popular guy with the kids holding bags and pounding the boys at practice with his green shield.  Is there a sport  that he hasnt won a championship? Pat Maiello, the Head Coach of the JV team also deserves some credit. Its very rare to see someone coach a team when his sons  are on other teams. He was also on the field at the Varsity games helping out. Coach John Lake of the JV team also did a great job with the pictures. Jim DelGrosso was in charge of the films again this year. When we look back at this season will anyone ever forget  MR JINGLES. We may never know exactly what he said or who he is but,his negative comments might have been the spark that fired up this team and coaching staff down the stretch. Great job coaches and good luck. It was a fun season.

Week 9 (first playoff round)
Montville 21-Caldwell 12

With a trip to the Super Bowl up for grabs the Montville Broncos Varsity B Team were able to defeat the Caldwell Chiefs in a thriller 21-12 at Caldwell. In what appeared to be an early Bronco blowout, Caldwell was able to capitalize on turnovers, poor special teams play, and a few defensive breakdowns to get back into the game. Kenneth Ventura returned the opening kickoff deep into Caldwell territory , almost breaking it all the way. A few plays later there was Ventura bulling his way in from short yardage. Donnie Trifari hit a wide open Anthony Chierici for the point and the Broncos led 7-0. In the second quarter the Broncos were able to score again, this time it was Anthony Chierici exploding around right end from about 30 yards out. James DelGrosso scored the extra point and the Broncos were on their way 14-0. Spotting the Bronco defense a 14-0 lead the game is over right? WRONG, Caldwell struck back on a long pass down to the goal line punching it in a few plays later. But they missed the point after. The first half ending 14-6. Caldwell was able to score again in the third quarter. Now with the score 14-12 , Caldwell went for the 2 point conversion. The kick was no good and the score remained 14-12. ( this was the first time a team was able  to score 2 TDs against the Bronco Defense all year) The excitement wasn't over yet. The Chiefs were able to recover their second onsides kick of the game and were back on the attack. After a big defensive stand, Caldwell was forced to punt. Now midway thru the fourth quarter deep in their own territory and clinging to a two point lead, James DelGrosso broke the game open flying 70+ yards down near the Caldwell end zone. ( In a big game it was a big time performance from Jimmy D ) Kenneth Ventura did the rest banging it in from the one. Donnie Trifari once again found Anthony Chierici for the point and Montville led 21-12. Montvilles ability to convert extra points was the key today. Kenneth Ventura was the work horse again scoring two Touchdowns, but it was the speed of Chierici and DelGrosso that broke the game open. The Broncos are 9-0 and headed HOME for "THE SUPER BOWL" against West Essex. Great job players and coaches !!!!!!!
Good Luck

Week 8
Montville 14 - East Hanover 0

CONGRATULATIONS to Joe Chierici,  (on yet another undefeated regular season) his coaching staff, and the players of the Montville Bronco Varsity B Team. With first place and an undefeated season on the line Montvilles defense just slammed the door on E. Hanovers hopes as a spoiler with a 14-0 shutout. All season I have written about the exciting "Bronco Express" offense and its many weapons never really recognizing the accomplishments of this defense. Led by Kenneth Ventura this defense has recorded 4 shutouts and only given up 4 touchdowns in eight games.(Caldwell scoring on the last play of one game) They seem to get stronger and stronger each week and have become a dominate force everytime they step on the field. Sunday was no different. Kenneth Ventura  had a monster game  pounding Hanovers backs all day and making tackles all over the field. Phil Benevenga and Josh Smith did a fantastic job stuffing up the middle and controlling the line of scrimage. When they tried to get outside Eric Toporoff and Marc Redding were there for sacks and big losses. Danny McClure came up big with an interception, a fumble recovery, and alot of key tackles. Before getting injured Matt Maiello had his share of tackles and big hits as well. The Secondary also played well with James DelGrosso making some plays and Anthony Chierici coming up with two big interceptions and a few open field tackles of his own. Offensively the Broncos were able to move the ball with Ventura leading the way but, miscues and a very fired up Hanover defense kept them out of the End Zone. The first half ending in a 0-0 tie. The play of the game came in the third quarter with Marc Redding and Danny McClure combining on a sack and forcing a fumble that Eric Toporoff was able to catch in mid air and rumble about 40 -50 yards for the Broncos first score. Donnie Trifari sprinted in for the point and Montville had a 7-0 lead. This play seemed to be the straw that broke Hanovers back. Following a Chierici interception, James DelGrosso turned in another one of his patented long, zig zag, tackle breaking runs for a touchdown. Donnie Trifari hit a diving Anthony Chierici for the point and the Broncos were in control 14-0. Donnie also had another fine day kicking and punting the football and gets the "Tough Guy Award" for sustaining far too many big hits from unblocked rushing linemen on every pass attempt. Robert Grimal  also chipped in a long run to end the game. Next week starts the playoffs with all 4 teams 0-0. The Broncos opponent will be Caldwell at Caldwell. Hopefully Montville will have a healthy Matt Maiello back in the line up and the offensive line will show up ready to play.
                                        Good Luck Broncos !!!!!

Week 7
Montville 21 - Livingston 6

With a 21-6 pounding over Livingston, the Montville Bronco Varsity B Team were able to clinch at least a tie for first place with one game remaining in the regular season.  It was the Broncos 7th victory without a loss. The Broncos played their best all around game of the season after a very interesting week of practice and a very controversial E-Mail from the infamous "Mr. Jingles". Putting all the distractions aside the Bronco Express unveiled yet another Offensive weapon. In his first action at Halfback Eric Toporoff was very impressive ripping thru the Livingston Defense for big gains. He also scored his first Extra Point of the season. Kenneth Ventura had his best rushing game of the season racking up big yardage on the day and scoring Montvilles first Touchdown.  Marc Redding had a big day running and catching the football.  He scored an extra point on a pass and had  a touchdown called back on a QB Bootleg. Donnie Trifari  ran for an Extra Point and passed for another to go along with a solid game kicking and punting the football.  He even played Tight End the entire second half.  Danny McClure and James DelGrosso were both outstanding getting outside for huge gains all afternoon with Danny also scoring a Touchdown.  Matt Maiello contributed a Touchdown with a 30 yard burst thru the middle of the beaten up Livingston line. The list goes on with Robert Grimal and Greg Deluca also getting their fair share of carries, both piling up substantial yardage on the day. With David Ge injured the Offensive line was still able to dominate the line of scrimage led by Robert Geers, Josh Smith, Phil Benevenga, Nick Libretti, John Cecire, Andy Crozier, and Anthony Callandrello.  Defensively Marc Redding was just outstanding swatting down passes, revovering a fumble, sacking the Quarterback, and recording numerous tackles. John Gauweiler and Anthony Chierici also had solid Defensive efforts.  Danny McClure had a big fumble recovery on Special Teams to go with his great game on Offense.  East Hanover comes to town this week looking for revenge and a share of first place.  Good Luck Broncos!!!!!!!!!!      Great Job coaches!!!!!!          Goodbye Mr. Jingles!!!!!!

Week 6
Montville Broncos 6 - Fairfield Falcons 0

In a thrilling game filled with emotion and tension on both sidelines, the Montville Broncos B Team  were able to SHUTOUT arch rival Fairfield 6-0. This was a game both teams had circled on the schedule since August. With an awesome display of Defense led by ERIC TOPOROFF, Kenneth Ventura, Grayson Wolf, Matt Maiello, Marc Redding, Greg Deluca, and Danny McClure the Broncos were able to hold Fairfield to basically 0 yards total offense. Also , after being burned a week ago Montville's DBs Anthony Chierici, James DelGrosso, and Donnie Trifari  did a fantastic job of blanketing Fairfields Recievers all day. Their biggest Offensive play was on a fake punt. Eric Toporoff was just everywhere. This was by far the best Defensive effort of the season. GREAT JOB BOYS!!!!!!  Offensively the "Bronco Express" came out very conservative pounding Matt Maiello and Kenneth Ventura thru the middle of the Falcon Defense most of the game. It was'nt until late in the first half the Broncos able to score. Again it was Ventura breaking tackles and rumbling over the goal line from about 20 yards out. The point after was missed and the 6-0 score held up for the win.  Kenneth Ventura made an interception to stop Fairfield right before the half.  Although the Bronco Offense sputtered most of the game,Ventura and Maiello ran hard all day. Anthony Chierici and Danny McClure added some nice runs and Donnie Trifari was able to connect with Marc Redding on 2 big pass plays in traffic under heavy pressure. In the game of the year bragging rights go to the 6-0 Broncos (AGAIN). Next up is Livingston on the turf.  BOYS, THEY ARE 0-6 BUT WOULD LOVE TO RUIN YOUR PERFECT SEASON. DONT LET UP AND BRING YOUR A GAME. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO ROLL OVER!!!!!!

Comments:  I wouldn't call passing on the first play of the game conservative.

Week 5
Montville 13---Verona 0

For the second consecutive week the Montville Varsity B team recieved a message and another wake up call. After cruising thru their first 3 games against the stronger teams in the league, the Broncos have stumbled their way to victories over winless teams. Boys the message is: THE WEAKER TEAMS ARE NOT GOING TO ROLL OVER AND PLAY DEAD. EVERYONE WANTS TO BEAT THE UNDEFEATED MONTVILLE BRONCOS. PLAY WITH THE SAME INTENSITY REGARDLESS OF THE OTHER TEAMS RECORD. Today a very big and physical Verona team came to town ready to play. Defensively they were able to basically shut down the high powered "Bronco Express". Early in the second quarter Montville had their best drive  of the day with Donnie Trifari Bootlegging it in from short yardage. On the extra point attempt Donnie found Anthony Chierici in the corner of the end zone for a 7-0 lead. That was it offensively until Robert Grimal was able to explode for a 70+ yard run down to the 5 yard line with seconds remaining. Montville scored on the last play of the game with Robert Grimal punching it in from the five for a 13-0 victory. Up against a big line, a talented Quarterback who could throw, and a balanced rushing attack the Bronco defense rose to the occasion today. Once again playing that dangerous "Bend but dont Break defense" Montville came up big stopping Verona on many 4th down plays. Verona's biggest gain of the day came on a busted play with James DelGrosso chasing down a Verona reciever headed for the end zone after about a 30 yard run. David Ge, Phil Benevenga,Marc Redding, Ken Ventura, Matt Maiello, Eric Toporoff,Greg Deluca, and John Gauweiler all made big plays today at critical times. The game goes in the books as a 13-0 shutout victory for the 5-0 Broncos but, the outcome was up in the air till the last minute of the game. Arch rival FAIRFIELD comes to town next week looking to derail the "Bronco Express".

Week 4
Montville 19---Cedar Grove 6

After getting off to a slow start filled with turnovers and lackluster play, the Montville Bronco B's were able to defeat a very hungry and fired up Cedar Grove team 19-6. Cedar Grove  controlled the ball most of the first half only to be turned away by the bend but don't break Bronco defense. On Montville's second possession Donnie Trifari hit Anthony Chierici with an electrifying 70 yard catch and run touchdown pass. As was the case last week, this was to be the only scoring of the first half. Early in the second half Trifari hooked up with Chierici again for another score extending Montville's lead to 12-0.  Trifari scrambled in for the  extra point and the Broncos were in control.  Montville had one more scoring drive with Matt Maiello ripping off big gains  enroot to his 1st touchdown of the season. Danny McClure also had a great game running the football.  Defensively the Broncos got big time performances from Eric Toporoff and Danny McClure.  Both made many tackles all over the field. Marc Redding contributed a few sacks, recovered a fumble, and blocked a punt.  Anthony Chierici also added an interception to go along with his big day on offense. Although it wasn't very pretty the Broncos are 4-0 and will be home this week to play Verona.

Week 3
Montville 12--- West Essex 0

In the long awaited rematch from 2 years ago, the Montville Bronco B squad was able to shutout a very tough West Essex football team 12-0 . Every Bronco player, coach, and parent remembers that cold and windy miserable day very well. It was the last  time a Joe Chierici coached team had lost a game. With that bitter loss in mind, the Broncos marched right down the field on their first possession. With Ventura and Maiello carrying the load chewing up substantial yardage on each play and a long Trifari to Redding pass, Montville was knocking at the door. Ventura finished the drive with a short smash off right tackle for six. This was to be the only scoring of the first half. In the 3rd quarter the broncos scored on their first play from scrimmage, a 70 yard zig zag, inside, outside, cutting and slashing run by DelGrosso making the score 12-0. Montville played a bend but don't break defense allowing West Essex to sustain long drives all day, only turn them away with swarming gang tackles led by Ventura and Chieici. Montville was able to just run the clock out in the 4th with Redding at Quarterback and some nifty running by Grimal, McClure, and Deluca. Next up for Montville Cedar Grove away. Go Broncos.

Week 2
Montville 20- Caldwell 6

On this day the Varsity B Broncos played as complete a football game as a team could play. It was a total team effort on both sides of the ball and special teams. The Broncos also were able to overcome a rash of questionable penalties. Montville's defense punished Caldwells line and backs all day led by Kenneth Ventura. Johnny Gauweiler, Philip Benevenga, David Ge, and Matt Maiello were in Caldwell's backfield all day shutting down their running game completely. Eric Toporoff, Marc Redding, Danny McClure, and Greg Deluca were able to control the outside as well.  When they went to the pass Anthony Chierici was there to swat them away.  It was just a team effort out there.  As in game 1 Eric Toporoff made another highlight film block.  The real stars today were the big boys upfront on the Offensive line opening gaping holes thru the Caldwell defense all day. They are Anthony Callandrello, Dave Ge, Robert Geers, Josh Smith, Johnny Gauweiler, Nick Libretti, John Cecire, Andy Crozier and Grayson Wolfe. Today Montville did rely mostly on the groung game but did get 2 big passing plays from Trifari to DelGrosso and Redding.  Montville scored on 2 long runs by Jimmy DelGrosso and a short sweep by Danny McClure.   Marc Redding scored two extra points on a reverse and a pass from Donnie Trifari. Kenneth Ventura , Matt Maiello, and Robert Grimal were able to pound thru the beaten up defense of Caldwell all day.  Again this was a total team effort and everyone had to be mentioned. Next up-WEST ESSEX at home.

Week 1
Montville 13  East Hanover 6

Joe Chiericis 2001 Montville Bronco Varsity B team opened their season with a 13-6 victory over East Hanover. This team is a combination of his 1999 and 2000 C Super Bowl championship teams. In this game the Broncos unveiled their new high powered, and exciting offense and a ferocious defense. With the exception of one late first half drive for a touchdown, Montville stymied Hanover's attack. The defense was led by Kenneth Ventura, David Ge, Marc Redding, and Danny McClure. On offense the Broncos were led by the passing of Donnie Trifari and the inside bruising running of Kenneth Ventura. With the recieving of Anthony Chierici and Marc Redding Montville was able to keep the Hanover defense off balance all day. Both Bronco Touchdowns were scored by Donnie Trifari, one on a QB sneak and the other on a Bootleg around the left end. Anthony Chierici scored an extra point on a pass and had a long run on a reverse.  James Delgrosso and Danny McClure were also very effective on Punt and Kick-Off returns. With this new found passing game of Trifari to Chierici and Redding and a ground game of Ventura, Maiello, and Delgrosso it should be a very exciting year for Bronco fans.

no "i" in Team.   I don't get it coach.
