MBSA Meeting Minutes

Date:  March 2, 2010

Attendance:  30+

 Meeting called to order at 7:33pm

 President’s Report: 

• Opening Day is April 10^th.  Plans for the ceremonies are going well.  Looking for someone to sing the National Anthem.

 •Mandatory coach certification classes for all first year coaches are March 4^th, 18^th and 31^st from 6:30-9:30pm at the Field House.  Information on the classes can be found on the MBSA website.  The MBSA can be fined if you are found on the field without the coach’s badge, which issued by the town after the completion of the class and the background check.

 •Picture Day for baseball is April 24^th and softball is April 17^th.  Forms will be on web so they can be filled out at home.

 •Spring Field Clean-up Day will be Saturday, March 20^th at 9am with a rain date of March 27^th.  During the clean up, a Field Maintenance Clinic will be held to instruct coaches in proper field preparation for games.

 • Nets still need to be installed along the foul lines on muni 1 and behind the backstops on all 3 fields.  The weather has delayed the installation.

 Sponsorships: 

• Currently have paid sponsors for 38 teams and 28 signs.  There are verbal commitments for more sponsorships, but checks have not be received.  We will still need about 20 more team sponsors beyond the verbal commitments.  Contact Joe Monetti if you know of a business that can be contacted regarding sponsorship.

 Softball:   

•Michelle Fund has 53 teams signed up.  There is one U14 team spot open and once filled, the tournament will be at capacity.  TD Bank is going to be a sponsor of the tournament this year.

 • Rules committee met and will be revising some of the recreation rules.

 •Rec softball clinics run by MTHS Varsity Coach, John Immediato and the high school softball players, will be as follows:

March 6^th grades K-2 from 4-5:30pm, grades 3-5 from 5:30-7pm

March 13^th grades 6-8 from 4-5:30pm

March 20^th grades K-2 from 4-5:30pm, grades 3-5 from 5:30-7pm

March 27^th grades 6-8 from 4-5:30pm

All clinics will be in the high school gym.  In person registration for softball will be accepted at the clinics.

 •Draft:  B level will be 6-7:30pm

            A level will be 7:30-9pm

 •Softball will start their first games on April 17^th so that every team will have the opportunity for 3-4 practices before the season starts.

 Baseball:

•Draft- March 9^th  7/8’s at 5:30pm

                             9’s/Majors 6:30pm

                             Minors 8pm

    Upper League draft will be sometime the week of March 15^th.

 • Coach’s Clinics at Frozen Ropes will be March 11^th, 15^th and 18^th from 8-10pm.  All 1^st and 2^nd year coaches will be required to attend a coach’s clinic.

 •Players clinics will be March 13^th, 20^th and 27^th from 4:30-6:00pm at Frozen Ropes and will be for the 7’s and 8’s.

 • Baseball will be hosting the 12U Districts this year the weekend of June 18^th.

 Treasurer:

• $175,000 in the account. 

 The next MBSA meeting will be Tuesday, April 6^th at 7:30pm.

 Meeting adjourned at 7:55pm.
