MBSA Meeting Minutes

Date: 01/08/08 – 8:00pm @Community Park Field House

Attendance: Approx. 27 people

 President’s Report:

·        REMINDER- In-Person registration on 1/12/08 & 1/26/08 10:00am to 1:00pm at the new 5^th Base Building.

·        Thanked Brian Karl for donating furniture for 5^th Base.

·        Thanked Ken Kiernan for donating slate tile for 5^th Base restrooms.

·        Thanked Jim Dodgson for installing the patio/landscaping for 5^th Base.

·        Brick Drive Project Update (Diana Higgins) – Sales are slow due to the holiday season. At this point we have approx. 15 orders. The form and online link is on the MBSA website. 

·        Sponsorship Update (Tim Holmes) – New Sponsors are needed since some have left due to kids leaving program. Forms are available on the MBSA website.

·        Field Maintenance (Tim Holmes) - Discussed field maintenance for this coming spring season. Topics included use and maintenance of Toro tractor, adding top soil and seeds to outfields and maintaining the existing clay on the infields. Funds are low due to the 5^th Base Project so maintenance will have to be done at minimal expense.

 Softball Report:

·        Current Umpire contract was renegotiated. The new contract will have a new payment structure so that coaches do not need to pay umpires anymore.

·        Winter training for travel teams has started.

·        Spring clinic dates are in progress. Check website for dates, times and location.

·        All proceeds from the Michelle Sullivan Softball tournament will go to the 5^th Base Project per the Michelle Sullivan Foundation.

 Baseball Report:

·        Coach’s Certification for Babe Ruth Baseball will be OK for 2008, but in 2009 it will be required to take an online test. The MBSA will need to revisit this prior to 2009 since the online testing will have additional costs.

·        7-8 year old clinics will be held 3/8 and 3/15. Check MBSA website for time and location.

·        9-12 clinics dates are tentatively 3/29 & 3/30. Once confirmed, dates, times and location will be posted on MBSA website.

·        Need a 7 year old Coordinator.

·        A consensus was taken on whether the Upper League (13-14 year olds) should allow 3 teams from Kinnelon to play with us this spring season. The consensus result was a majority YES.

 Treasurer’s Report:

·        Current balance is approx. $15,000. Majority of funds from 2007 have gone towards the 5^th Base Project. Fundraising discussion took place since funds are running lower than normal. Discussed a golf outing, beefsteak, 50/50 and the current Brick Drive as major fundraisers.

Next meeting will be February 5th 8:00pm at Community Park Field House.
