MBSA Meeting Minutes

Date:  February 2, 2010

Attendance:  15+

 Meeting called to order at 7:30pm

 President’s Report: 

• Last in-person registration, Saturday, February 6^th from 10am-12pm, weather depending.  Email will go out if cancelled due to snow.  300 baseball registrations and 109 softball registrations have been done online.  22 people came to in-person registration on January 23^rd.

 •MBSA looking to help Board of Ed/Township to repair Hilldale field and turn it into a softball field.

 •Spring Field Clean-up Day will be Saturday, March 20^th at 9am with a rain date of March 27^th.  During the clean up, a Field Maintenance Clinic will be held to instruct coaches in proper field preparation for games.

 • For those who aren’t aware, the MBSA’s team names/mascot are the Montville Mustangs for the boys and the Montville Lady Mustangs for the girls.

 • Nets to be installed along the foul lines on muni 1 and behind the backstops on all 3 fields.

 Sponsorships: 

• Currently have paid sponsors for 23 teams and 17 signs.  There are verbal commitments for more sponsorships, but checks have not be received.  More are needed and forms are found on the MBSA website or you can check a box on the online registration form and Joe Monetti will contact you.

 Softball:   

•Michelle Fund has 50 teams signed up.  Half have paid their entry fee.  Deadline is next week, and then the waiting list will be contacted.

 • Rules committee is going to meet to review the rec rules.

 •Rec softball clinics run by MTHS Varsity Coach, John Immediato and the high school softball players, will be as follows:

March 6^th grades K-2 from 4-5:30pm, grades 3-4 from 5:30-7pm

March 13^th grades 5-8 from 4-5:30pm

March 20^th grades K-2 from 4-5:30pm, grades 3-4 from 5:30-7pm

March 27^th grades 5-8 from 4-5:30pm

All clinics will be in the high school gym.  Email notification will go the schools this week.

 Baseball:

•Draft will be Monday March 8^th for the 9’s, Majors and Minors.  7 and 8 year old teams will be done according to school attended.

 • Coach’s Clinics at Frozen Ropes in mid-March.  All 1^st and 2^nd year coaches will be required to attend a coach’s clinic. Player clinics will be later in March.

 •Summer travel tryouts will be May 1^st at Reilly Field

 •U12 travel team having a dinner fundraiser at the Red Barn on February 11^th from 4:30pm-7:30pm.  Have dinner at the Red Barn that evening, and the Red Barn will donate 20% back to the U12 Travel Team.  They are also selling MBSA t-shirts for $10 and MBSA car magnets for $5.

Treasurer:

• $64,000 in the account. 

The next MBSA meeting will be Tuesday, March 2^nd at 7:30pm.
